Nio (NYSE: NIO) today added eight new battery swap stations in China, bringing the number of the facility to 2,300, the company announced today on its mobile app.
The company had 1,305 battery swap stations at the end of 2022, and the latest number means it has added 995 stations so far this year.
Nio announced at its Nio Day 2022 event a year ago that it aimed to have more than 1,700 battery swap stations in China by the end of 2023, meaning it would add about 400 this year.
On February 21, Nio significantly raised that goal, saying it would add 1,000 battery swap stations in 2023, bringing the total to more than 2,300 by the end of the year.
The latest progress means that Nio is just five stations away from reaching that target.
To date, Nio has cumulatively provided more than 34 million battery swap services, an average of about 60,000 per day, according to the company.
Nio has built a cumulative total of 743 battery swap stations along highways in China, covering seven vertical highways, six horizontal highways, and 11 urban clusters.
By 2025, Nio’s battery swap network will cover nine major vertical highways, nine horizontal highways, and 19 urban clusters in China, it said, repeating its previous goal.
To date, Nio has provided more than 150,000 battery upgrades. The company allows vehicle owners to upgrade their battery packs on an annual, monthly and daily basis.
Nio also has 2,077 supercharging stations in China offering 9,608 superchargers and 1,481 destination charging stations offering 11,295 chargers.
Currently, 80.3 percent of Nio owners can find at least one battery swap station within 3 kilometers of their home, according to its charging map.
Nio completed its first battery swap station in Shenzhen on May 20, 2018, and saw its 1,000th battery swap station come online on July 6, 2022.
On October 26, Nio reached 2,000 battery swap stations in China.
Nio currently has 33 battery swap stations and 14 charging stations in Europe.
