Nio’s (NYSE: NIO) flagship SUV, the ES8, has become the designated vehicle for the G20 Entrepreneurship Roundtable 2023, following last month’s announcement that its flagship sedan, the ET7, will be the designated vehicle for another major event.
The G20 Entrepreneurship Roundtable 2023 is being held at Fenhu Lake, Suzhou, October 23-24, and Nio’s all-new ES8 is the designated car for the event, providing a mobility experience for international dignitaries and guests, the company said today.
The G20, or Group of Twenty, is the primary international forum for global economic cooperation comprised of 19 countries and the European Union, and these member countries account for about 85 percent of the world’s GDP and more than 75 percent of the world’s trade, a Nio press release noted.
In 2017, the Entrepreneurship Research Center on G20 Economies was established at Tsinghua University and the G20 Entrepreneurship Roundtable was set up in collaboration with the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security (MOHRSS) of China.
The platform serves as a means for G20 member states to deepen information exchange and share best practices to support the implementation of the entrepreneurship action plans, Nio said.
Under the theme of “Promote Entrepreneurship and Employment in Platform Economy”, the 2023 G20 Entrepreneurship Roundtable is co-organized by the Ministry of Labour and Employment of India, presidency-holder of G20 in 2023, and the International Labour Organization (ILO), with the support of MOHRSS of China.
Participants included leaders from China’s MOHRSS, government officials from G20 member countries, experts from international organizations, and representatives from Chinese and foreign enterprises, according to the press release from Nio.
Supporting the G20 Entrepreneurship Roundtable 2023, the new ES8 was well received by both Chinese and foreign attendees, providing high-end commuting services while showcasing the leading technology of China’s new energy automobile industry, Nio said.
The ES8 was originally launched on December 16, 2017 at Nio Day 2017.
At Nio Day 2019 on December 28, 2019, Nio launched the upgraded ES8, still based on the NT 1.0 platform.
On December 24, 2022, Nio launched the new ES8 based on the NT 2.0 platform at the Nio Day 2022 event, with deliveries starting on June 28 this year.
The ES8 is Nio’s flagship SUV and its highest-priced model to date, with a starting price of RMB 498,000 ($68,060) in China.
Making vehicles the designated cars for important events can be helpful in boosting a company’s image.
On September 15, Nio said its flagship sedan, the ET7, became the designated vehicle for the sixth China International Import Expo (CIIE), which will be held from November 5 to November 10 in Shanghai.
The annual CIIE, co-hosted by China’s Ministry of Commerce and the Shanghai government, was held for the first time in 2018. This year will be the first time an all-electric vehicle has been chosen as the official vehicle for the event.
Earlier today, Nio’s local counterpart Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) said its flagship SUV G9 was the designated vehicle at the China-GCC Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum.

The forum, which opened on October 22, was co-hosted by China’s Ministry of Commerce and the Guangdong provincial government, and the G9 provided transportation for dignitaries during the event.
Xpeng initially launched the G9 on September 21, 2022 and released a facelift of the SUV on September 19 with a starting price of RMB 263,900 yuan.
