Deepal, the new energy vehicle (NEV) arm of Changan Automobile, has updated its SL03 electric sedan as the Chinese Lunar Year of the Dragon begins with a fierce price war.
Deepal offers the SL03 in battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants, with only the SL03 BEV getting the update for now.
Deepal is offering three options for the 2024 SL03 BEV, with starting prices of RMB 156,900 ($21,820), RMB 163,900, and RMB 173,900, according to information it released today.
The two lower-priced versions are powered by a battery pack with a capacity of 58.89 kWh and have a CLTC range of 530 kilometers. The highest-priced version is powered by a 66.8 kWh battery pack with a CLTC range of 610 kilometers.
The previously on-sale SL03 BEV was offered in two variants with starting prices of RMB 163,900 and RMB 191,900, and CLTC ranges of 515 km and 705 km respectively.
This means that Deepal has lowered the starting price of the SL03 BEV by RMB 7,000 in its latest update and given the entry model a slightly increased range.
Deepal is also offering customers who buy the SL03 BEV an RMB 10,000 cash discount, or RMB 6,000 cash discount plus RMB 6,000 option fund.
The SL03 BEV measures 4,820 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width and 1,480 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm.
It is powered by a single electric motor, with the two lower-priced versions having a peak motor power of 160 kW, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 6.9 seconds. The highest priced version has a peak power of 190 kW and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds.
Deepal, Changan’s NEV brand unveiled in 2022, officially launched the Deepal SL03 on July 25, 2022, a Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model 3 competitor.
Deepal also has an SUV called the S7, a competitor to the Tesla Model Y.
In November 2023, Deepal rolled out the SL03i and S7i, new versions of the two existing models equipped with advanced assisted driving features.
Deepal delivered 17,042 vehicles in January, up 177.69 percent year-on-year but down 7.07 percent from December, according to data it released earlier this month.
