In the fourth quarter, BYD sold 595,413 passenger BEVs and 918,556 passenger PHEVs.
BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) saw a new sales record in December, selling more than 4 million units for the first time annually.
The company sold 514,809 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in December, marking the third time it has surpassed the 500,000 mark and the seventh consecutive month of record sales, according to data released today.
This is a 50.95 percent increase from 341,043 in the same period last year and a 1.58 percent increase from 506,804 in November.
BYD ceased production and sales of vehicles powered entirely by internal combustion engines in March 2022, switching to focus on the production of plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) models.
BYD’s NEVs include passenger cars as well as commercial vehicles, with passenger NEVs selling a record 509,440 units in December, up 49.76 percent year-on-year and up 1.08 percent from November.
Its commercial NEVs sold a record 5,369 units in December, up 520.69 percent from a year ago and up 91.68 percent from November.
BYD sold 207,734 units of passenger BEVs in December, up 8.90 percent from a year ago and up 4.88 percent from November.
Sales of passenger PHEVs in December amounted to 301,706 units, which was a 101.91 percent year-on-year increase but a 1.38 percent decrease from November, marking the second consecutive month of sequential decline.
In December, BYD sold 57,154 vehicles in overseas markets, up 58.34 percent year-on-year and up 84.50 percent from November.
In addition to being China’s largest NEV maker, BYD is also China’s second-largest power battery maker.
BYD’s installed base of power and energy storage batteries amounted to about 23.495 GWh in December, up 32.40 percent year-on-year and up 4.55 percent from November.
In the fourth quarter, BYD sold a record 1,524,270 NEVs, marking the second time the company has sold more than 1 million units in a single quarter.
That’s up 61.34 percent year-on-year and up 34.31 percent from the third quarter.
Its passenger NEVs sold a record 1,513,969 units in the fourth quarter, up 60.61 percent year-on-year and up 34.07 percent from the third quarter.
Commercial NEVs sold 10,301 units in the fourth quarter, up 384.07 percent year-on-year and up 82.77 percent from the third quarter.
BYD’s passenger BEVs sold 595,413 units in the fourth quarter, up 13.11 percent year-on-year and up 34.28 percent from the third quarter.
Passenger PHEVs sold 918,556 units in the fourth quarter, up 120.68 percent year-on-year and up 33.93 percent from the third quarter.
BYD sold 119,323 NEVs in overseas markets in the fourth quarter, up 22.70 percent year-on-year and up 26.30 percent from the third quarter.
BYD’s installed base of power and energy storage batteries amounted to about 66.985 GWh in the fourth quarter, up 34.03 percent year-on-year and up 21.43 percent from the third quarter.
For the full year 2024, BYD’s NEV sales amounted to 4,272,145 units, up 41.26 percent year-on-year.
Its passenger NEVs sold 4,250,370 units in the full year of 2024, up 41.07 percent year-on-year.
Commercial NEVs sold 21,775 units in the full year of 2024, up 89.17 percent year-on-year.
BYD’s passenger BEVs sold 1,764,992 units in 2024, up 12.08 percent year-on-year.
Passenger PHEVs sold 2,485,378 units in 2024, up 72.83 percent year-on-year.
BYD sold 417,204 units overseas in the full year of 2024, up 71.86 percent year-on-year.
BYD’s installed capacity of power and energy storage batteries amounted to about 194.705 GWh for the full year of 2024, representing a year-on-year increase of 29.02 percent.
