BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) saw a new milestone as it continues to consolidate its position as China’s largest new energy vehicle (NEV) maker.
BYD saw its 6 millionth NEV roll off the assembly line, the first automaker in the world to see this achievement, the company said today.
BYD will continue to work with its partners to use technological innovation to drive the global automotive industry to change and move forward, it said.
The 6 millionth BYD NEV is the Bao 5, the first model of the company’s personalized brand Fangchengbao, which saw its first delivery yesterday.
BYD stopped production and sales of vehicles powered entirely by internal combustion engines in March 2022, shifting to focus on NEVs, including battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs).
The 6 millionth NEV milestone is just slightly longer than three months from the 5 millionth.
On August 9, BYD saw the 5 millionth NEV, the N7 SUV from its sub-brand Denza, roll off the production line.
On November 16, 2022, BYD sees its 3 millionth NEV roll off the line, an all-electric Seal sedan.
It took BYD 13 years to see its NEV production reach its first million units. After that, its production rate accelerated significantly, and it took just one year to reach its second millionth NEV.
From the 2 millionth to the 3 millionth NEV rolled off the production line, it took BYD just six months.
BYD sold a record 301,833 NEVs in October, the first time it has surpassed the 300,000-unit mark and the sixth consecutive month of record highs.
From January to October, BYD sold 2,381,471 NEVs, up 70.36 percent year-on-year.
The company is expanding in overseas markets, selling 176,041 vehicles overseas in January-October, including 30,521 in October.
Up to now, BYD’s NEVs have entered 58 overseas markets, including Germany, Japan, France, Brazil, Australia and the United Arab Emirates, with overseas sales totaling more than 200,000 units.
