BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has launched the Atto 3 in the Philippines, bringing the global model to yet another country.
The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker launched the Atto 3 in the Philippines on November 17 with local dealer AC Motor, a subsidiary of the Ayala Group that specializes in automotive, according to a company press release yesterday.
BYD is offering two versions of the Atto 3 in the Philippines — the standard range version and the long range version — with a starting price of 1,598,000 Philippine pesos ($28,830) and 1,798,000 Philippine pesos, respectively.
This pricing strategy takes into account the demand and purchasing power of the Philippine market, where BYD is committed to providing high-quality affordable products to local consumers, the company said.
The Atto 3 is known as the Yuan Plus in China and was launched on February 19, 2022. The model is the first SUV of BYD’s all-electric platform, e-platform 3.0, and its first to be built for the global market.
Alongside its launch in China, the model also opened for pre-sale in Australia under the name Atto 3. The Atto naming was inspired by the Attosecond, the smallest unit of time scale in physics.
The Atto 3 continues to sell well in regions such as Thailand, Singapore, New Zealand and Brazil, BYD said at an investor conference on November 15, adding that it will launch a number of highly competitive NEV models in global markets.
As BYD’s first globalized model, the Atto 3 has sold more than 500,000 units worldwide, said James Ng, general manager of BYD Philippines and Singapore.
BYD entered into a partnership with Ayala in August, and AC Motors will be responsible for the sales and maintenance of BYD’s models in the Philippines through its sales network.
Aside from the Atto 3, AC Motors will also introduce three additional BYD models in the Philippines — the Han EV, Tang EV and Dolphin.
The Atto 3 made its local debut during the Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit held last month.
BYD sold 301,833 NEVs in October, including 30,521 sold overseas, according to figures it released earlier this month.
From January to October, BYD sold 176,041 NEVs overseas.
