BYD‘s (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) personalization sub-brand, Fang Cheng Bao, will start deliveries of its first model, the Bao 5, this week, after officially launched the model earlier this month.
The first batch of Bao 5 models are being prepared for the first nationwide delivery, which will begin on November 24, Fang Cheng Bao announced today.
Fang Cheng Bao launched the Bao 5 off-road SUV at its November 9 launch event, offering three variants with starting prices of RMB 289,800 ($40,400), RMB 309,800, and RMB 352,800, respectively.
The Bao 5’s highest-priced version comes with BYD’s DiSus-P intelligent body control system, which was released in April and also includes two other branches, DiSus-C and DiSus-A.
Orders for the Bao 5 placed before November 20 will be delivered in accordance with the previously announced delivery rules.
For orders from November 21, the expected delivery lead time for the two less expensive versions of the Bao 5 is around 4-6 weeks. The model with the DiSus-P system, on the other hand, will be delivered from January 2024, according to the company.
BYD officially unveiled the Fang Cheng Bao brand and a technology platform called DMO on August 16, and gave the Bao 5 its official debut.
DMO is the exclusive platform for Fang Cheng Bao, where O stands for off-road and DM for dual mode.
The Bao 5 measures 4,890 mm in length, 1,970 mm in width and 1,920 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,800 mm.
The hybrid model has a fuel tank with a volume of 83 L and a battery pack with a capacity of 31.8 kWh. It has a CLTC battery range of 125 km and a combined range of 1,200 km on a full tank of fuel and full charge.
At the launch event on August 16, apart from the Bao 5, BYD also teased the Bao 3 at the time, as well as the Super 8, a Bao 8 concept.

Both the Bao 8 and Bao 3 will be released in the second half of next year, with the former being a hybrid model based on the DMO platform that’s a bit larger than the Bao 5, while the Bao 3 will be an A-class pure-electric model, Fang Cheng Bao’s general manager, Xiong Tianbo, said in an interview with local media on the sidelines of the Guangzhou auto show.
