Fang Cheng Bao began accepting customer reservations for the Bao 5 a month ago, with a pre-sale price range of RMB 300,000 – RMB 400,000 yuan.

BYD’s personalized sub-brand Fang Cheng Bao has seen the first production car of its first model, the Bao 5, or Leopard 5, roll off the assembly line, after the model began pre-sales a month ago.
BYD announced the development on Weibo today, revealing no further information but sharing detailed specs of the model.
The Bao 5 is a hardcore crossover model offered in three variants with a pre-sale price range of RMB 300,000 ($41,060) to RMB 400,000, according to a poster by BYD.
It measures 4,890 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width and 1,970 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,800 mm.
The Bao 5 is powered by dual electric motors, with the front motor producing 200 kW of power and 360 Nm of torque, and the rear motor producing 285 kW of power and 400 Nm of torque.
The plug-in hybrid is also equipped with an engine with a displacement of 1.5L and a maximum power of 143 kW and a maximum torque of 273 Nm.
The powertrain has a total power of 505 kW and a total torque of 760 Nm, allowing the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 4.8 seconds.
The Bao 5 is equipped with BYD’s blade battery based on lithium iron phosphate chemistry with a pack capacity of 31.8 kWh and a CLTC battery range of 125 km. It has a combined range of 1,200 km on a full tank of fuel and full charge.
The Bao 5 supports DC fast charging and takes 16 minutes to charge from 30 percent to 80 percent.
BYD officially introduced the Fang Cheng Bao brand on August 16, unveiling a technology platform called DMO and unveiling the Bao 5.
BYD’s hybrid technology platform previously included the DM-i and DM-p, with the former focusing on fuel economy and the latter more on performance. The company’s pure electric vehicle platform is called e-Platform 3.0.
DMO is Fang Cheng Bao’s dedicated platform, where O stands for off-road and DM stands for dual mode.
BYD also debuted the Super 8, a concept of the Bao 8, and another model, the Bao 3, at the August 16 event.
On August 25, Fang Cheng Bao made the Bao 5 available for pre-order on the first day of the Chengdu auto show, with a price range of RMB 300,000- 400,000.
As of now, no official launch date or final price has been set for the Bao 5.
The Bao 5 is being manufactured in Pingshan, Shenzhen, where BYD is headquartered, according to a regulatory filing earlier this month.
