BYD today announced its new energy vehicle (NEV) sales for December, followed by breakdown figures showing the performance of different brands and models.
BYD’s NEVs include passenger NEVs and commercial NEVs, with the former comprising different brands including BYD, Denza, Yangwang and Fang Cheng Bao.
The BYD Group sold a record 341,043 NEVs in December, including 340,178 passenger cars and 865 commercial vehicles.
BYD-branded passenger cars — including Dynasty and Ocean models — sold 321,570 units in December, up 40.67 percent year-on-year.
The premium Denza brand sold 11,929 units in December, up 98.75 percent year-on-year and up 0.73 percent from November.
Denza’s sales in December included 10,492 D9 MPVs, 1,035 N7 SUVs, and 402 N8 SUVs.
Personalized sub-brand Fang Cheng Bao delivered 5,086 vehicles in December. Fang Cheng Bao’s first model, the Bao 5, was officially launched on November 9 and deliveries began on November 23, with 626 units delivered in November.
The Yangwang brand delivered 1,593 vehicles in December. The BYD ultra-luxury sub-brand launched its first model, the U8, on September 20, with deliveries beginning on November 24.
The U8, which has a starting price of RMB 1.098 million ($154,650), delivered 408 units in November.
Among the BYD brand’s models, the Song family continued to rank as the top-selling BYD model with 84,039 units sold in December, up 19.92 percent year-on-year and up 36.22 percent from November.
In 2023, Song family models sold 640,749 units, up 33.04 percent year-on-year.
Song family models on sale include Song Pro DM-i and Song Max DM-i in the Dynasty series, and Song Plus EV and Song Plus DM-i in the Ocean series.
BYD’s Dynasty series of Song models sold 33,314 units in December, up 63.97 percent from 20,317 units in November.
Its Ocean range of Song models sold 50,725 units in December, up 22.59 percent from 41,377 in November.
The Seagull was the second-highest-selling BYD model with 50,525 units sold in December, up 13.28 percent from November.
The BYD Seagull was launched on April 26 at a starting price of RMB 73,800, making it the cheapest BYD model. The model sold 280,217 units in April-December.
BYD’s Qin family of models sold 46,394 units in December, up 77.04 percent year-on-year and up 9.32 percent from 42,440 units in November.
The Qin family was the third best-selling BYD model in December.
In 2023, the BYD Qin family sold 482,145 units, up 38.12 percent year-on-year.
The BYD Yuan family sold 41,681 units in December, up 41.44 percent year-on-year while down 1.52 percent from November.
In 2023, BYD Yuan family models sold 428,580 units, up 87.14 percent year-on-year.
The Dolphin sold 36,514 units in December, up 40.04 percent year-on-year and up 3.6 percent from November, and was the fifth best-selling BYD model last month.
In 2023, the BYD Dolphin sold 367,419 units, up 78.86 percent.
BYD’s flagship sedan, the Han, sold 20,902 units in December, down 30.43 percent year-on-year while up 2.5 percent from November.
In 2023, the Han family of models sold 228,383 units, down 16.65 percent year-on-year.
BYD Seal sold 20,093 units in December, up 30.66 percent year-on-year and up 1.17 percent from November.
The BYD Seal initially went on sale in China on July 29, 2022, with deliveries beginning in August 2022. BYD made a revamped version of the Seal available on May 10 and a hybrid version of the Seal DM-i on September 6.
In 2023, BYD Seal sold 127,323 units, up 157.35 percent year-on-year.
BYD’s flagship SUV Tang sold 11,316 units in December, down 43.88 percent year-on-year while up 6.32 percent from November.
In 2023, the Tang family of models sold 137,184 units, a decrease of 9.05 percent year-on-year.
The BYD Chaser 05 sold 6,150 units in December, up 0.7 percent year-on-year and up 3.36 percent from November.
In 2023, BYD Chaser 05 sold 92,008 units, up 203.15 percent year-on-year.
BYD Frigate 07 sold 2,020 units in December, down 21.61 percent from November. The model was officially launched on December 19, 2022.
In 2023, BYD Frigate 07 sold 69,697 units.
BYD e2 sold 1,936 units in December, an increase of 50.08 percent from November. The compact NEV was launched on April 6 and has accumulated sales of 19,132 units so far.
