With 57,940 units sold in August, the Song family continues to rank as the top-selling BYD model, up 36.33 percent year-on-year and up 13.04 percent from July.
BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) today reported record new energy vehicle (NEV) sales of 274,386 units in August, followed by breakdown figures showing the performance of different models.
The Song family continued to rank as the top-selling BYD model with 57,940 units sold in August, up 36.33 percent year-on-year and up 13.04 percent from July.
From January to August, Song family models sold 368,211 units, up 50.85 percent year-on-year.
The BYD brand’s models include the Dynasty and Ocean series, and the Song family models include the Song Pro DM-i and Song Max DM-i of the Dynasty series, and the Song Plus EV and Song Plus DM-i of the Ocean series.
BYD’s Dynasty series of Song models sold 21,000 units in August, up 11.70 percent from 18,800 in July.
Its Ocean series of Song models sold 36,940 units in August, up 13.81 percent from 32,458 in July.
BYD launched the Song Pro DM-i Champion Edition on May 25 and the Song Plus Champion Edition on June 19. On August 25, BYD gave the Song L its debut on the first day of the Chengdu auto show, and the model is expected to go on sale within the year.
BYD’s Qin family of models sold 45,004 units in August, up 13.90 percent year-on-year and up 0.69 percent from July.
The Qin family continued to be the second best-selling BYD model in August. The Qin family models had previously been BYD’s top sellers from March to June, but were overtaken by the Song family in July.
On February 10, BYD let a facelifted version of its plug-in hybrid sedan, the Qin Plus DM-i, go on sale, with a starting price range of RMB 99,800 ($13,740) to 145,800 yuan.
This is the first time BYD has let the starting price of a model equipped with its DM-i powertrain fall below RMB 100,000.
In the January-August period, BYD’s Qin family sold 305,472 units, up 38.62 percent year-on-year.
The Seagull sold 34,841 units in August, up 24.43 percent from July, replacing the Dolphin as BYD’s third-highest-selling model.
The BYD Seagull was launched on April 26 at a starting price of RMB 73,800, making it the cheapest BYD model. The model sold 101,647 units from April to August.
The Dolphin sold 32,745 units in August, up 39.52 percent year-on-year and 2.49 percent from July, making it the fourth best-selling BYD model last month.
In the January-August period, the BYD Dolphin sold 227,543 units, up 120.94 percent year-on-year.
The BYD Yuan family sold 32,662 units in August, up 78.82 percent year-on-year and up 3.83 percent from July.
In the January-August period, BYD sold 270,271 units of its Yuan family models, up 126.93 percent year-on-year.
BYD’s flagship sedan, the Han, sold 22,760 units in August, down 12.47 percent year-on-year and down 9.81 percent from July.
In the January-August period, the Han family of models sold 144,028 units, down 3.39 percent from 149,075 units in the same period last year.
BYD’s flagship SUV Tang sold 12,242 units in August, up 13.19 percent year-on-year and down 3.32 percent from July.
In the January-August period, the Tang family of models sold 94,243 units, up 20.16 percent year-on-year.
BYD began pre-sales of the new Tang family models on August 25, the first day of the Chengdu auto show, and officially launched them on August 31.
BYD Chaser 05 sold 12,092 units in August, up 38.59 percent year-on-year and up 0.82 percent from July.
In the January-August period, BYD Chaser 05 sold 63,992 units.
BYD Seal sold 5,700 units in August, up 230.24 percent year-on-year and up 0.88 percent from July.
Initially launched in China on July 29, 2022, the BYD Seal is a battery electric vehicle (BEV) and is seen as one of the strongest rivals to the Tesla Model 3 in China.
Deliveries of the model began last August, and BYD made a revamped version of the Seal available on May 10.
On July 14, BYD rebranded the Chaser 07, which was unveiled on the first day of the Shanghai auto show on April 18, as the Seal DM-i. BYD began pre-sales of the model on August 25 at the Chengdu auto show.
From January to August, BYD Seal sold 54,147 units.
The BYD Frigate 07 sold 4,604 units in August, up 2.29 percent from July. The model was officially launched on December 19, 2022.
In January-August, BYD Frigate 07 sold 56,772 units.
BYD e2 sold 1,760 units in August, down 30.98 percent from July. The compact NEV was launched on April 6 and has accumulated sales of 14,700 units so far.
BYD’s premium brand Denza sold 11,515 units in August, up 3.31 percent from July.
The Denza D9 MPV sold 10,035 units in August and the N7 SUV sold 1,480 units.
