The US military’s long, slow ride into the electrified world of the future has shifted gears, now that the Army Corps of Engineers is in the driver’s seat. The USACE has set itself a goal of developing dual-use electric vehicles that can support both itself and the Army on disaster response missions, and they are getting an assist from off-road experts at the Texas-based EV startup Volcon. Super-Sporty Electric Vehicles For Disaster Response It’s fair to ask why the US Army Corps of Engineers…

It’s an obvious question. If Ford’s new Fast Charging Adapter—which allows Ford’s electric vehicles to use the Tesla Supercharger network—isn’t some kind of “smart device,” won’t it theoretically let any EV charge that way as well? In other words, can’t you use the Ford adapter to charge a Rivian, or a Chevrolet Bolt, or anything else on the Supercharger network now?  The answer, unfortunately, is no. Not until more automakers get authenticated to use the Superchargers. Let’s dig into why. Our man Tom Moloughney of the State Of Charge YouTube channel was among the first to use Ford’s new adapter to…

The Tesla Roadster marked the start of the modern electric vehicle revolution. A tiny startup effort to transform the Lotus Elise into something that could prove the concept of battery-powered sports cars yielded what is, today, the world’s most valuable car company run by the world’s richest man. You might agree, then, that pristine Roadsters don’t deserve to be left to rot away in a shipping container on the coast of Shanghai, never to be found for over a decade.   That’s why Silicon Valley tech entrepreneur Dan O’Dowd took it upon himself to rescue the three lost Roadsters from China—even though he…

Lucid makes what is ostensibly the most efficient luxury electric sedan on the market, the Air. But according to head honcho Peter Rawlinson, EVs need to become even more efficient to “save the planet.” He noted in an interview with the UK’s Autocar that “the holy grail” would be an electric car capable of driving 6.2 miles (10 km) on one kilowatt-hour of energy calculated according to the stringent US EPA guidelines for EVs. That’s about 1.5 times more efficient than the most frugal version of the Lucid Air, the entry-level Air Pure RWD. The Pure RWD’s EPA-rated 4.1 miles/kWh puts it considerably ahead…

I’m not sure if you could really call it a legit SUV, but these fun-looking little Chinese electric vehicles might just be an interesting alternative to the car bloat clogging the streets of cities around the world. Oh, and they make an excellent entry for this week’s Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week. I stumbled across these $2,600 gems while perusing Alibaba, and one of the first things to catch my eye was the “street-legal” moniker in the title. Based on several years spent elbow-deep in the Chinese electric micro-car industry, I can tell you these probably aren’t…
