Ford has launched a new limited-edition matte black F-150 Lightning, which looks pretty sick. Henry Ford famously said that “any customer can have a car painted any color that he wants so long as it’s black” and Ford is reminding us of that with the launch of the new F-150 Lightning Platinum Black. Even though it’s actually a wrap and not a paint job. Ford describes the company’s first-ever matte-wrapped production truck: “The F-150 Lightning Platinum Black is a monochromatic electric truck, combining the tech and power capability of the high-end Platinum trim level wrapped in a unique matte black wrap…

It’s more expensive to repair an EV—especially a Tesla—after a collision, but also more likely that the car can still be driven while waiting for repairs, according to a new auto damage study from a company that provides tech for the auto insurance and collision repair industries. That firm, Mitchell International, sifted through second-quarter 2023 industry data, finding that average repair costs for EVs were $963 higher in the U.S. and $1,328 higher in Canada than for comparable internal-combustion vehicles. Unlike the CVRP, the Clean Cars 4 All program considers applicants’ income. In its expanded statewide form, the program will offer up to $12,000 to California residents who scrap and replace older, higher-polluting vehicles with cleaner alternatives, or…

In a class of teardrop-shaped electric crossovers, the Mercedes-Benz EQB stands out as refreshingly different—for its upright, more boxy profile.  Even though it’s about the same size on the outside as the Tesla Model Y, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq 5, or VW ID.4, it can feel more spacious inside. And like only the Model Y, it offers available third-row seats to fit up to seven—in a parking space that might be called compact by American standards. The 2024 model year will only be the EQB’s third, but Mercedes already has a decent list of updates ready for this model,…
