The new scheme makes billing more dependent on the amount of power added, which may help promote the use of the battery swap service compared to the previous fixed service fee plus a power charge. (Image credit: Nio) Nio (NYSE: NIO) today released a new pricing plan for its battery swap service in China, marking the third major change to the service since it became available. For car owners who need to pay to use the service, the latest charging scheme is: Single battery swap charge = (Electricity + Service charge) * Added power If the user adds less than…

Say rooftop solar and most people assume you are talking about putting solar panels on the roof of a private home. But there are thousands of acres of rooftops on commercial buildings and above parking lots that are just perfect for solar energy systems. The beauty part is that using those roofs to generate solar power turns the owners of those properties into prosumers — people who both produce and consume their own locally generated electricity. Part of the reason the idea is becoming…
You can drive home a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y for $0 down when financing. The promotion is valid between September 12-30 and when you take the delivery of the EV before the end of the month. For the no downpayment option, the APR is 2.49% but you can get an even lower 1.99% APR when you put down 20%. Tesla is pulling out all the stops to attract new buyers. On top of its rapid-fire cuts last year that triggered a global electric car price war, Tesla is now going one step further to get buyers into its…

But, seeing the date, I remembered that I had picked the Bolt EUV up in September of 2022 and it has now been two years since picking the car up. I figured I’d take this chance to review what the last two years with the vehicle has been like, and what this means not only for people looking at used Bolts, but for people considering newer Ultium-based…
As the only part of a car that actually touches the road, tires can have a major impact on both performance and efficiency. Tire manufacturer Pirelli and automotive supplier Bosch both believe that making tires an extension of vehicle sensing systems can help enhance both. The joint development agreement was announced Tuesday for tires with embedded sensors, which is being touted as potentially delivering “greater safety, comfort, and sustainability, as well as improved driving dynamics,” according to the companies. Pirelli and Bosch to develop data-transmitting tires These improvements will come courtesy of data transmitted from the in-tire sensors to a…
Nio said it has donated compensation it received in several lawsuits over false rumors to the relief efforts for Super Typhoon Yagi. (Nio Logo. Image credit: CnEVPost) Nio (NYSE: NIO) said it has donated compensation from several rights defense cases to typhoon relief, as the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker’s efforts to combat false rumors continue. Nio has recently noticed that some self-media outlets have been deliberately smearing and rumor-mongering about the Nio brand and users, infringing on the company’s and users’ legitimate rights and interests and seriously affecting the company’s normal business operations, its legal department said today in…
Photo by NPS/Colton Johnston Zion National Park’s shuttle fleet has become one of the first bus fleets in the US to go all electric, and the first at a National Park. Zion National Park in Southern Utah is renowned for its colorful canyons and arches, and is one of the “mighty five” national parks in the region showing off Utah’s natural beauty. The park, which is largely situated around a narrow canyon, started getting more and more visitors in the 1990s, leading to traffic issues. This led the park to close off most park roads to private traffic, and institute…
Toyota is expected to be one of the world’s first car manufacturers to launch a passenger vehicle powered by solid-state batteries. The company has been talking about its solid-state goals for years, but now its plans to start building cars with this battery tech have been validated by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and the official start of production is set for sometime in 2026. Initial production will be very limited but it will be ramped up through 2027 and 2028, although there could still be setbacks that postpone it again. However, actual mass production is planned…
A small electric SUV with 300 miles of range produces 52% fewer life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions than a comparable gasoline vehicle, according to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Greenhouse gas emissions from production and distribution are currently around double that of gasoline production and distribution, the DOE notes, but that’s more than offset by the tailpipe emissions of gasoline vehicles, which represent nearly three quarters of their total life-cycle emissions. Comparison of 2024 lifetime greenhouse gas emissions of small SUVs (via U.S. Department of Energy) And while producing and burning fossil fuels will never get cleaner, it’s possible for…
