BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) will officially begin sales of the Song L in China in the middle of next month, after starting pre-sales of the SUV late last month.
The Song L, the B-class shooting brake model of BYD’s Dynasty matrix, will officially go on sale on December 15, the new energy vehicle (NEV) giant said on November 18 on its Weibo account.
Seventeen days after opening for pre-sales, the Song L received more than 11,000 pre-orders, BYD said.
BYD unveiled the Song L concept on April 18, the first day of the Shanghai auto show, and began pre-sales of the production version of the model on October 31, with a pre-sale price range of RMB 220,000 ($30,710) to RMB 280,000 yuan.
The Song L is based on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 and is available in five versions in pre-sales, including four single-motor versions and one dual-motor version.
The Song L is the second shooting brake-style SUV under BYD’s umbrella, the NEV maker’s premium Denza brand launched the Denza N7 on July 3 as the group’s first such model.
The Song L measures 4,840 mm in length, 1,950 mm in width and 1,560 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,930 mm.
The single-motor version has two options of 150 kW and 230 kW of peak motor power, while the dual-motor version has two motors with 150 kW and 230 kW of peak power respectively.
BYD seems to be upping the ante on shoot brake-style SUVs, which are closer to the ground than the average SUV.
The company unveiled the Sea Lion 07 on November 17, the first day of the ongoing Guangzhou auto show, the first model in its Sea Lion lineup in its Ocean array.
The Sea Lion 07 will also be the third shooting brake-style SUV under BYD’s umbrella after the Denza N7 and Song L, albeit at lower prices.
BYD’s models include the Dynasty series, named after dynasties in Chinese history, and the Ocean series, named after sea creatures and ships.
Sea Lion will be BYD’s Ocean array of SUV model series, with Sea Lion 05 to be unveiled next year and future models including Sea Lion 06, Zhang Zhuo, general manager of BYD’s Ocean series sales division, said in a recent interview with local media outlet Dongchedi.
The Sea Lion 07 BEV will have a price range of RMB 200,000 to RMB 260,000, and deliveries could start soon after its launch in the first half of next year, Zhang said.
