BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has begun pre-sales of the Song L, the second shooting brake style SUV under the new energy vehicle (NEV) giant’s umbrella.
With a pre-sale price range of RMB 220,000 ($30,070) to RMB 280,000, the Song L will be a pioneering choice for mainstream Chinese families, BYD said today.
Built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0, the Song L is available in five versions, including four single-motor versions as well as one dual-motor version.
Its single-motor version has two CLTC range options of 550 kilometers and 662 kilometers, while the dual-motor version has a CLTC range of 602 kilometers.
The starting prices for these five versions are RMB 220,000, RMB 240,000, RMB 240,000, RMB 260,000 and RMB 280,000 respectively.
The Song L measures 4,840 mm in length, 1,950 mm in width and 1,560 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,930 mm.
The single-motor version has two options for peak motor power of 150 kW and 230 kW, while the dual-motor version has two motors with peak power of 150 kW and 230 kW respectively.
The Song L is available in a variety of body and interior color options, and comes with frameless doors and an adaptive power tailgate option like some of the current high-end models.
BYD unveiled the Song L concept on April 18, the first day of the Shanghai auto show, a premium B-segment all-electric SUV in BYD’s Dynasty lineup.
The car features a coupe-style design with a coupe crossover body style stance, the company said at the time.
Song L is a sporty, powerful SUV with a styling that breaks with tradition and is the aesthetic of the new generation of the Dynasty product array, it said.

The Song L will be the latest addition to the Song family of BYD’s Dynasty lineup, which is expected to boost sales of the family’s models.
The BYD brand’s model range includes the Dynasty and Ocean series, and Song family models include the Song Pro DM-i and Song Max DM-i in the Dynasty series, and the Song Plus EV and Song Plus DM-i in the Ocean series.
BYD sold 287,454 NEVs in September, up 42.83 percent year-on-year and up 4.76 percent from August for its eighth consecutive increase.
Its Dynasty range of Song models sold 22,675 units in September, up 7.98 percent from 21,000 in August. The Song models in the Ocean lineup sold 40,165 units in September, up 8.73 percent from 36,940 in August.
